Adaptation of Documents
The alternate format services offered by the CCSIs produce accessible materials for college students with disabilities (SWDs). They enable SDHH to access course materials in a format that works for them, such as an electronic text file, an accessible PDF, a braille file, or an audio file.
Distribution of Adapted Documents
For formats related to visual impairment, adapted documents are sent to SWDs by email or mail.
For all formats other than those related to visual impairment, documents are provided to SWDs through a secure distribution platform. It is therefore necessary to register in order to benefit from it.
In order to access this service, students with perceptual disabilities, whether visual, physical, or learning disabilities, must contact Adapted Services at their educational institution.
Accessibility of Files
All files produced by alternate format adaptation services are compatible with text to speech software, search and navigation tools, highlighting and commenting, and help options.
These services take into account the different characteristics of SWDs and offer specialized adaptations for visual impairments.
The conditions of use and adaptation of the documents are defined, in particular by the Copyright Act.
